Applied Kinesiology

Dr. Stephen Nedd grew up with Applied Kinesiology experiencing it as a patient with chiropractors and also at home since his sister and father were instructors of Touch For Health which is an offshoot of Applied Kinesiology.

Applied Kinesiology (AK) is a non-invasive system that evaluates body function by looking at structural, chemical and environmental aspects of health using manual muscle testing combined with other standard methods of assessment and diagnosis.

Applied Kinesiology involves 2 parts: Assessment and Treatment.

Assessment

First of all, Applied Kinesiology is used to assess body function.

It is not used to diagnose a disease or condition. It is a tool used to assess whether the body has imbalances, weaknesses, deficiencies, excesses or other non-optimum conditions that can lead to dis-ease or poor health. Various systems of the body are checked including the muscles, spine and extremities, nervous system, vascular system, lymphatic system, cerebral spinal fluid, and organs.

Taking a health history, performing a physical exam, and ordering x-rays and lab work are standard approaches to diagnosing diseases and conditions. Applied Kinesiology is an excellent tool to help guide a practitioner in the direction of how to restore balance to each individual case.

Muscle testing can be performed on the first visit as well as on a visit-to-visit basis to determine where spinal misalignments (subluxations) need to be adjusted, which muscles need to be strengthened, if the patient has any allergies or sensitivities to foods or environmental irritants, and which nutrients need to be taken along with supplement dosage changes.

Treatment

After assessing what areas of the body are out of balance or malfunctioning, there are a variety of healing modalities that can be used to help restore balance and function including:

  • Chiropractic spinal and extremity adjustments
  • Cranial adjustments
  • Reflex massage of nerve, vascular, lymphatic, and cerebral spinal fluid associated points
  • Acupressure or acupuncture
  • Dietary recommendations
  • Nutritional supplementation
  • Tailored exercises
